Oh god, so apparently Missouri is losing its shit because there’s really no other explanation for what’s happening in Ferguson as of last Saturday. Below is my BuzzFeed version of a news article, or something. I know there’s much, much more to the story and there are missing details and info within this post so if you have any good articles or relevant links to share to add onto this, please leave them in a comment!
For your reading pleasure: a nice Mashable article comparing Ferguson to Iraq – if you can believe… the similarities?! A live stream feed from earlier in today, a nice article from The Verge on the duty and right to record police and a concise version of your video and audio recording rights. All of the below photos are linked to their original tweet so you can retweet and share them to your timeline directly from the post.
Let’s have a looksie at what our friends the “peace enforcers” aka police were doing to the law-abiding protesters.
Police: You must leave the entire area. Your peaceful assembly is no longer peaceful.
Protesters: Fuck you. (@JonSwaine)
Now let’s take a moment and look back at some …relative highlights from the night’s activities.
Yes… this is an inflammatory caption, but for the purpose of contrast let’s respect his descriptive freedom and just focus on the photo, also shared by Jon Swaine.
Also relevant here, from Corey. “Mark my words, that picture of the guy throwing tear gas back at the cops while holding a bag of chips will be in history books some day. ‘Man fighting back at police brutality also saves his bag of chips, #merica.'”
Please Lord, let us turn this tear gas into holy water and bless these police who have sinned…
This tweet is my favorite so far with double points for the clever quote retweet with a MUCH more fitting photo (link to original tweet here).
Oh, but wait! There’s more.
It blows my mind that this is happening right now… I’m surprised it hasn’t fundamentally upset anyone and everyone, but I guess most people are probably just keeping their heads down and using the “glad it’s not me” excuse to not pay attention. That mindset – it’s selfish, pathetic, and definitely a reason we’re still having these problems.
I’ll leave us all with this, because it’s basically happening. Well played.
