The Most Critical Item For Your Beauty Arsenal This Summer

What’s the most critical item when it comes to wearing makeup in the summer?

Two words: SETTING. SPRAY.

You can have all the best makeup in the world but it will never look good sweating down your face… So, in the summer a good setting spray should be your best friend.

For the last few years, I’ve used Urban Decay’s Setting Spray and liked it — I mean, it worked… but it always left my skin with a dewy sheen. (Side note: As I am writing this I just found that UD makes an oil controlling setting spray. Anyone tried it? Drop me a comment and let me know if it’s worth picking up.)

As someone with oily skin, I don’t need any help with shine. I use a mattifying primer, and do all this work to make my skin look MATTE, and then I’d set my makeup with the UD spray and my face would be dewy. But, it’s whatever now because I found a new setting spray that mattifies skin, AND — BONUS — it has SPF 50 as well!

Meet the Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Spray with SPF 50.

This stuff is LEGIT. It’s like spraying a magical (liquid) blotting paper — it goes matte instantly and really soaks up any excess oil or sheen on your skin. Plus, there’s a definite hint of rosemary which is refreshing and so much better than an artificial scent.

I found this during my shopping spree at Sephora the other week (peep the first post of this confessional series here), and it has truly been a game changer in my like AKA beauty routine.

They suggest 7-10 sprays to get the full SPF coverage (remember to shake well!), but I typically spray 8+ just to make sure I have my makeup covered… I wear SPF 30-50 every day so having this as a way to refresh my coverage makes life easy.

Maybe I’m the only person to get so excited over finding a great setting spray, but here we are… IT’S AMAZING. If you have oily skin or live in a place where the summer is hot and humid, YOU NEED THIS. IMO this is one of the most critical items to have in your beauty arsenal for summer… besides a badass mattifying primer, of course.

It’s $28 for the 3.4oz size (which I have) and $12 for the 1oz, which I may pick up just for convenience when traveling because I am never going to be without it again. What more can you ask for from a setting spray that also gives you sun protection and controls oil/shine?!

Hopefully this Supergoop! setting spray is a new find for some of you, and you love it as much as I do… There is no better feeling than that of going out and being confident knowing my makeup will actually stay fresh and in place for hours.

xx

  1. I bought this. This is perfect. I use it ALL THE TIME. and it actually makes my makeup stay on aaalllllllll night! I’m so so happy with this purchase.

  2. Saw this when you sprayed your friend on snapchat… like HI perfection. Do you find it helps your makeup last longer or is it more just kind of a refresher/mattifying product?

    1. Hahaha she was like “OH MY GOD WOW IT REALLY DOES!” No it definitely is a setting spray. I got rid of my UD in favor of this one – it’s mattifying over being dewy, smells better, and has the SPF benefits. You’re supposed to reapply if you’re using it as primary sun coverage, otherwise I don’t really need to if I’ve used it to set my makeup when I’m going out or something. You’ll love it x

  3. Yesssss! I have the city serum and it’s so worthwhile as well. It protects against pollution and has broad spectrum SPF 30. It’s super light and great for my combo skin. This may be my next buy.. I’ve had my eye on it. Glad you like it!

    1. OOOOOH? I am a serum whore but most are way too heavy for my mostly oily skin… I might have to try that out, thanks for the rec my girl! xx
