If you have oily skin like me, listen up. I have been on a quest to find a great primer that manages oil and mattifies skin to actually keep my makeup on for years… Every other primer I’ve tried has still “melted” off my skin, taking my makeup with it, by midday.
OR, a primer will suck all the moisture out of my skin (“clarifying!”) and leave it feeling sticky or like my makeup is caked on after an hour or so of wearing. Kind of makes you think primers are some kind of beauty scam, right?
WRONG.
After scouring the internet for products and reviews, I picked the one that seemed the best for my needs to try… It came a couple of weeks ago and ever since I first tried it I have been IN!!! LOVE!!!
Meet Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More.
Touted as a “cult favorite,” this refining primer creates the perfect canvas for makeup application, acting as an invisible barrier to prevent makeup from clogging pores and a velvety base to absorb excess oil and blur fine lines and imperfections, as well as improve the longevity of your makeup.
The consistency of Pores No More is like a soft, thin gel – less is more to cover your face, which is nice because it means the product itself will last longer. It costs $45, but after trying I consider it a worthwhile investment. PS. This post is not sponsored — I bought this myself to try and am just really excited about finding and sharing it with you guys! I really have been struggling for years to find a proper base for my combo/oily skin to keep my makeup in place. But anyway, I digress…
The packaging is awesome – very nifty. It’s a pump tube similar to the IT Cosmetics CC Creams, which I prefer to a squeeze bottle or tube. Bonus points for its fresh smell, there’s a distinct essential oil-y scent I really love in there. Here’s a selfie from a few days ago when I used the primer and was feeeeeeling myself with this bright liquid lipstick:
I wore it as a base for powder with no foundation because it does a great job at smoothing my skin, diffusing any imperfections and actually soaks up excess oil to make my face look balanced, not shiny. If I’m not breaking out, I don’t wear foundation all over because I feel like my skin can’t breathe and this is like a clear, perfecting foundation that feels weightless once absorbed. YASSS.
Post-primer, I dusted this NARS face powder all over to even my skin tone out and then applied Orgasm and Hourglass Ambient Lighting colors to my cheeks and for highlight. On my lips is ABH “Vintage” Liquid Lipstick. Side note: not impressed with the ABH liquid lippies so far… The colors are gorgeous and SO vibrant but the formula never fully “dries” so there is color transfer all day.
If you’re looking for a new primer, or are less than in love with your current one, try Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More. Seriously impressed. Highly recommend.
xx
