Yesterday morning, I was blessed with a delivery from Amazon. The man at my door handed me a thin box and I was confused because I hadn’t ordered anything online recently but THEN I REMEMBERED – I pre-ordered Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook, Cravings: Recipes For All The Food You Want To Eat, forever ago, and it just came out. Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, and Target.
If you don’t follow Chrissy on social anywhere – do that already. She’s hot, hysterically outspoken, married to John Legend, and is a model WHO LIKES TO EAT. Not stereotyping that models don’t like to eat or enjoy food, just that she seriously gets after it in the kitchen and has true culinary passion.
As soon as I got it out of the box I immediately started drooling over the recipes… If you’ve added me on Snapchat (QueenSCB) then you will have seen my story yesterday previewing the chapters and recipes.
Where do I start? There’s a french toast casserole with salted frosted flakes (WTF?!?!?!), John’s fried chicken wings with spicy honey butter, caprese salad with crispy prosciutto, balsamic glazed brussels sprouts with bacon, cranberries, walnuts, and blue cheese…
There are 94 mouthwatering recipes in total. The only thing she doesn’t have a section for is desserts, which is great because I have an insatiable sweet tooth and I think her dessert chapter would be absolute food porn a la Pinterest. (Side note: I’m using my Pinterest again! Follow me for all things beauty, health, recipes, design and home decor, and more.)
My favorite part about this cookbook is that it’s written casually. It’s like she’s in your kitchen instructing you – and since she has such an authentic social presence, it’s fun to imagine how fucking awesome that would actually be.
Though some of the dishes can be complicated/require actual skill, they’re not written in a way that makes you feel like an incompetent failure if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Her oppeness to improv in the kitchen is refreshing. The recipes will be like, 4 pounds of tomatoes – Roma, plum, vine-ripened, whatever. 3 herb sprigs – rosemary, thyme, oregano, whatever. Whatever is usually how I feel by the end of cooking up a proper meal, so I appreciate her “fuck the rules” attitude.
Someone on Twitter asked if I would be trying the recipes and reviewing them on the blog for difficulty and how good they taste, and YASSSS, I will be doing that! I’m currently planning my first meal out of the book for next week. Stay tuned!
